About Red Cloud Golf Course
Red Cloud is happy to boast the 3rd best 9-hole public golf course in
Nebraska! Designed by the late PGA Tour Pro
Harry Obitz
(bio below) in 1988, the
construction was truly a community effort with many members generously donating their
time and equipment. The course offers two distinguishing features to all
golfer levels. One, despite the harsh winters, the grass stays green and
golf is open year round. The second is a unique characteristic that is
rarely found, elevated greens, which quickly make the putting surfaces playable
even after a hard rain.
The playing surface is of bluegrass fairways and bent grass greens.
Cedar tree lines guide you from tee to many of the greens. The first hole is a
short par four, a perfect beginning hole. A large pond comes into play on
the par-4 second hole, from the blue tees your drive must clear the pond.
The long fairway and difficult green is your next challenge on the par-4 third
hole. A long par-3 with a big green lays out the fourth. The par-5
fifth is long, straight and out-of-bounds to the right. A long, deceptive
green is the main feature on the par-4 sixth. A short par-3 seventh gives
you a break, but the big cottonwood in front of the green can demand an accurate
shot. Big breaks on the eighth green require a good approach shot.
The signature par-5 ninth is out-of-bounds on both sides and offers a two-tier
green.
